Virtual Book Launch: TO LOVE IS TO ACT

More than 80 people joined Marva for the virtual launch of To Love Is to Act: Les Misérables and Victor Hugo’s Vision for Leading Lives of Conscience. On July 25, 2020, lovers of reading, fans of the musical Les Misérables, Hugo specialists, and people who strive to live their best possible lives listened to Marva tell how her book came to be and what she explores in it, as well as read excerpts and show illustrations. They then shared what they appreciate about To Love Is to Act and asked Marva about what especially interested them, including questions about Victor Hugo and about her writing process.

In her book, Marva explores what we can learn from Victor Hugo, particularly in times such as these, times that demand conscientious choices. In a series of essays that point to the novel’s contemporary relevance and interweave Hugo’s life with Les MisérablesTo Love Is to Act highlights Hugo’s guiding principles for life. Enriching the book are insights from artists who captured the novel’s heart in the famed musical, Les Mis creators Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg—who graciously contributed the Foreword—musical  producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh, film director Tom Hooper, and award-winning Jean Valjeans: Colm Wilkinson and Hugh Jackman.
